The Last Pick You Will Ever Need To Buy –
Before we start I want to stress that I genuinely cannot recommend these picks to anyone. Let’s just get that out of the way first. The price is absolutely ridiculous for a single pick. But here is the thing. I made the switch to BlueChip and I am never going back.
A little bit about BlueChip is that they specialize in one thing, picks. BlueChip uses this highly proprietary, “self-lubricating” composite material that was originally designed for high-stress industrial bearings and aerospace tech. It is essentially an expensive polyimide resin that is incredibly wear-resistant. It won’t flake, it doesn’t need polishing, and it handles heat and moisture without deforming. I haven’t even had to order a new one because of wear and tear yet. I actually did pick up a few more recently, but that was just to have some extras on hand, not because the old one is anywhere close to worn out.
The specific model I run is the TAD 40. It is basically a triangular shape with about 1mm thickness. I found that the triangle gives me way more to hold onto and a lot more control over my playing. The material they use has this unique feel where it gives you just the right amount of grip so it isn’t sliding around in your fingers.
The biggest thing I notice though is the speed bevel. The way they carve the edges allows the pick to glide through the strings so effortlessly that you notice it the second you start picking. It is a total game changer for fluid movement.
I am not the only one obsessed with these either. Billy Strings is a massive advocate for BlueChip and he is probably the best example of what these things can do. Even the Wall Street Journal recently came out with an article on the company. That has definitely spiked the demand which sucks for lead times lately. It is a double edged sword because I hate waiting longer but it is cool to see a company that does such a great job getting that kind of recognition.
I will say it again. I can’t recommend this to you because paying $35 for one single pick is extreme. It is a hard pill to swallow. But for me, they are the only picks I use from now on. Take that for what you will.
